Le Cacaotier

Chocolatier Hubert Masse’s work with chocolate has taken him around the world. As a youngster, he spent four years in Guatemala, where he was first introduced to chocolate while working with some Swiss chocolatiers who were friends of the family.

He returned to France for some formal training, and then he was off to London, Sydney and Rio de Janeiro.

He opened his first chocolate shop in Australia, where he remained for seven years.

In France, he has worked for La Maison du Chocolat, and Le Bristol.

Mr. Masse and his Irish wife, Susan, opened Le Cacaotier in Enghien-les-Bains in 1995. Today they have two shops – the original store as well as another one in Paris, plus a laboratory in Saint-Pierre-lès-Elbeuf (Seine-Maritime).

The house specialities are a dark chocolate ganache infused with lime, citronella and honey, and gianduja with hazelnuts from Italy’s Piedmont region.

Hubert Masse was awarded the Grand Prix du Chocolat Artisanal de la Ville de Paris in 2008

He was named one of the top 12 chocolatiers in France at the 2011 Awards du Chocolat, doled out by the Club des Croqueurs de Chocolat.
