This family-run artisanal chocolate shop was founded by Gilbert Benoit in Angers in 1975. Monsieur Benoît worked as a boulanger-pâtissier for ten years before decided to devote himself to making chocolate full-time.
Today, his children, son Dominique and daughters Véronique and Anne-Françoise, run Benoit Chocolats shops in Lille, Angers and Paris.
The company’s traditional ganaches, truffles, pralines, macarons, fruit jellies and other sweets are still hand-made according to Gilbert’s recipes at the original shop in Angers. The house speciality is Caramandes – chocolate-covered caramelised almonds.
The cosy Paris shop, opened in 2009 on rue Saint-Antoine, just steps away from place de Vosges, is run by Anne-Françoise, who was named one of the top 12 chocolatiers in France by the Club des Croqueurs de Chocolat in 2010.
