Located just off the elegant place des Vosges in the Marais district, Joséphine Vannier is one of Paris’s lesser known artisanal chocolate shops.
But it’s not just an artisanal chocolate shop — it is also very much a chocolate art shop.
The store’s eye-catching window displays are often filled with chocolate objects such as African-themed masks, artist palettes, violins, pianos and other musical instruments, — all made of solid 72 per cent cacao dark chocolate.
Joséphine Vannier’s chocolate artists can make almost anything to order, and the items on display usually reflect their latest creations.
The store also sells a wide selection of ganache-filled chocolates in flavours like black currant, orange, pineapple basil or green tea, as well as chocolate-covered almonds, ice cream and other confections.
Now, if you think you’ve finally come across one of Paris’s rare woman chocolatiers, you should know that the chocolate creations here are made by a team of artisan chocolatiers. No one appears to have actually met the elusive Joséphine Vannier.
