Patrice Chapon began his training as a restaurant chef, but having always been fond of sweets he was soon drawn to the “noble” craft of pâtisserie.
He trained in Deauville, followed by a stint as official ice cream maker for Buckingham Palace, where he satisfied the British royal family’s sweet tooth with his fresh fruit sorbets and ice cream.
While in London, Monsieur Chapon became enchanted with the chocolate displays at Harrod’s department store and thus discovered his true calling: chocolate.
And so upon his return to France, he began making chocolates in his workshop in Chelles (Seine-et-Marne department) in 1985, opening a storefront in 1993.
Chapon’s first shop in Paris opened in 2001, on Avenue de Mozart, followed in 2005 by the store on rue du Bac.
His chocolates have won numerous awards, among which the Grand Prix du Chocolat de la Mairie de Paris in 2003 and First Place at the Awards du Salon du Chocolat in 2007
Patrice Chapon writes on his website of his belief in chocolate as an “art of living,” and so invites “each man and each woman to think “chocolate”, breathe “chocolate” and nourish their soul with the “magic of chocolate.”
