Macaron lovers in Paris and elsewhere will want to mark their calendars: Sunday, March 20 is “Jour du Macaron” (Macaron Day) in France – an annual celebration of the delicate meringue-based confections that come in a rainbow of colours and fillings.
Pierre Hermé, who launched this event in 2005, will be offering free macarons in his Paris stores as will other participating members of the Relais Desserts association, which represents the top pastry chefs in the world.
Other pastry shops in Paris taking part include Sadaharu Aoki, Laurent Duchêne, Jean-Paul Hévin (organised on March 19) and Arnaud Larher.
The event is also a wonderful opportunity to support Autour des Williams, a charity that funds research into rare diseases and provides assistance to those afflicted by Williams-Beuren syndrome. Donations will be accepted in each participating shop.
This year’s event is the 6th edition of Jour du Macaron. And it’s not just happening in France. Macaron lovers in the U.S. can check out the official Macaron Day New York 2011 website for details.
