Spring is almost here, and so is Jour du Macaron. This very special fundraiser has a loyal following among fans of the dainty Parisian confection. The 11th annual edition takes place in France on Saturday March 19 and Sunday March 20, 2016.
Participating Relais Desserts member pâtisseries in Paris and throughout France will be offering free macarons — in a choice of exotic flavours — in exchange for donations to Vaincre la Mucoviscidose. The association funds research on cystic fibrosis and helps families affected by the disease. Last year Jour du Macaron raised 50,000 euros for the charity!
Remember, for every donation, a free macaron. And there are plenty of shops taking part. As in other years, participating pastry shops in Paris include all Sadaharu Aoki, Jean-Paul Hévin, Pierre Hermé, Laurent Duchêne and Arnaud Larher stores.
Jour du Macaron an international event
Jour du Macaron was founded by Pierre Hermé in 2005 in the aim of creating a gourmand event in support of charities. It has been so successful that Jour du Macaron (Macaron Day) now takes place in several countries around the world, with monies raised going to local charities.
In the U.S., the 7th annual Macaron Day NYC is taking place on Sunday March 20, 2016 and will benefit City Harvest, which collects and delivers nutritious food to groups that feed the hungry. Participating shops in New York City include Almondine Bakery, Bisousciao Macarons and Bisousciao Pâtisserie, Bosie Tea Parlour, Bouchon Bakery, C, Dana’s Bakery, Desserts by Michael Allen, Eclair Bakery, François Payard Bakery, La Maison du Chocolat, Macaron Café, Macaron Parlour, Mille-feuille, Provence en Boîte, Spot Dessert Bar, Sugar and Plumm, Todd English Food Hall and Woops! BakeShop.
